Strong Content Knowledge (NSTA Standard 1)
I graduated from William & Mary Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Biology. In my time at William & Mary, I completed 50 credit hours in biology and maintained a GPA of 3.99. These classes spanned a range of subjects that covered both organisms and systems biology and molecular and cellular biology. My coursework also included many biology and chemistry labs. Outside my biology courses, I also took relevant coursework in anatomy and statistics. View my transcript for a more complete listing of my courses.

Recently, I took both the Praxis II Biology Content Knowledge and the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA). I scored a 193 out of 200 on the Biology Praxis. This score earned me a recognition of excellence, seen here. I passed the VCLA with a score of 570.

Relevant Experience
As a Teachers for Competitive Tomorrow intern, I had the opportunity to engage the public in learning about science. This was my first taste of science education that convinced me to pursue a career in teaching.I witnessed the power of making science relevant to people's lives during my internship as a TCT fellow at the Science Museum of Virginia. I worked at the museum's EcoLab, which was part of a Department of Energy grant to study the water quality of streams in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. In my time at the Museum, I led a hands-on activity in identifying aquatic invertebrates which engaged visitors and communicated the importance of conserving our natural resources, particularly emphasizing the protection of our local bodies of water. I was also chosen to work with colleagues to develop a new exhibit on storm water management in the Richmond area. I plan to incorporate these and other relevant issues in my lessons to students whenever possible.
